Egypt vs Gulf — gold price comparison

Gold gram price in each country, converted to one currency for easy comparison

Why the gram price differs by country

The foundation is identical everywhere, the global ounce price. Three things then move the final number apart: the local currency's rate against the dollar, the taxes and duties each country places on gold, and the local market's own margin. That is why every figure here is converted into a single currency, so the comparison is fair.

Taxes make a large difference

Some countries charge value added tax on gold jewellery while exempting investment bars, and others exempt both. That difference alone can make the same piece noticeably dearer in one country than another. If you are thinking of buying abroad, price in the tax, the customs duty, and the insurance before you compare.

A cheaper country is not always an opportunity

When one country looks cheaper, the gap is usually eaten by travel, shipping, customs, and paying a currency spread twice. This comparison is more useful for understanding the market and sensing when your local shop is out of line than it is as a reason to buy abroad.
