Gold eased in Egypt today, 28 September 2026, giving buyers a softer entry point than earlier in the week.
A gram of 24K was quoted at about 7,120 pounds, with 22K near 6,527 pounds, 21K — the grade most buyers across the region choose — around 6,230 pounds, and 18K close to 5,340 pounds. The 8-gram gold pound, at 21K, works out at roughly 49,840 pounds.
Globally, the ounce traded near $4,198, which is the reference every local price is built from. Converting it takes two steps: divide by 31.1 to reach a gram of pure gold, then apply the local exchange rate and the purity of the karat.
Karat choice follows purpose. 24K is the purest and suits bars. 21K is the most popular for jewellery across the region for its balance of hardness and price. 18K appears mostly in stone-set pieces and lighter accessories.
It helps to separate the "gold price" from what you actually pay. Jewellery carries a making charge you lose on resale, while bars and coins carry a much smaller premium and sit closer to the raw gram price — which is why they suit saving better than ornaments do.
The gap between a dealer's buy and sell price widens in volatile periods and narrows in quiet ones, which means buying and selling within a few days rarely works in a saver's favour.
There is a real difference between buying gold to preserve value and buying it to trade. The first suits a horizon of years and tolerates volatility; the second demands daily attention and an appetite for risk most savers do not have.
A softer market often draws buyers who have been waiting, though it is worth remembering that a single day's move says little about the weeks ahead.
When you come to sell, the value of what you hold is usually based on the gram price alone, without the making charge. Choosing the right karat and form for your purpose — saving or wearing — matters more than timing the market.
