A look at gold prices in Egypt today, 6 October 2026

Prices in Egypt came under pressure today, 6 October 2026, following the global ounce lower.
A gram of 24K was quoted at about 7,011 pounds, with 22K near 6,427 pounds, 21K — the grade most buyers across the region choose — around 6,135 pounds, and 18K close to 5,258 pounds. The 8-gram gold pound, at 21K, works out at roughly 49,077 pounds.
Globally, the ounce traded near $4,122, which is the reference every local price is built from. Converting it takes two steps: divide by 31.1 to reach a gram of pure gold, then apply the local exchange rate and the purity of the karat.
Buying in Egypt tends to rise around wedding seasons and holidays, and that local demand can push making charges up even when the global price has not moved at all.
Local demand follows clear seasonal patterns — wedding season, the end of the school year, the approach of the holidays. In those windows jewellery demand rises and making charges often rise with it.
Gold has long been treated as the first refuge in times of inflation and uncertainty, holding purchasing power over long stretches. In the short term it still swings, and those swings reward patience rather than hurried decisions.
Always ask for a receipt stating the weight, karat and making charge. It is the only reference you have when reselling or exchanging, and it protects you from any later disagreement over what you bought.
A softer market often draws buyers who have been waiting, though it is worth remembering that a single day's move says little about the weeks ahead.
When you come to sell, the value of what you hold is usually based on the gram price alone, without the making charge. Choosing the right karat and form for your purpose — saving or wearing — matters more than timing the market.
