Foreign currency rates against the Egyptian pound were updated again today, 28 September 2026, with households and importers alike watching the dollar for its direct effect on prices.
The US dollar was quoted at about 51.74 pounds, the euro near 58.91 pounds and sterling around 68.48 pounds. Among Gulf currencies, the Saudi riyal stood close to 13.80 pounds and the UAE dirham near 14.09 pounds.
Across the rest of the region, the Kuwaiti dinar remained the highest valued at roughly 167.82 pounds, followed by the Bahraini dinar at about 137.62, the Omani rial near 134.58, the Qatari riyal around 14.22 and the Jordanian dinar close to 72.98 pounds.
Card rates on foreign purchases differ from the cash rate. The global networks add a small margin to each transaction, which usually appears on the statement two or three days later.
Analysts watch the gap between bank rates and bureau rates as a gauge of how plentiful foreign currency is. A widening gap usually signals pressure on supply; a narrow one suggests relative calm.
Travellers are usually better served buying foreign currency in instalments rather than all at once, which avoids the risk of hitting a single day at the top of its range.
