Dollar and euro rates today, 22 September 2026, in Egypt

1 min read
Foreign currency rates against the Egyptian pound were updated again today, 22 September 2026, with households and importers alike watching the dollar for its direct effect on prices. The US dollar was quoted at about 51.93 pounds, the euro near 59.57 pounds and sterling around 69.45 pounds. Among Gulf currencies, the Saudi riyal stood close to 13.85 pounds and the UAE dirham near 14.14 pounds. Across the rest of the region, the Kuwaiti dinar remained the highest valued at roughly 168.40 pounds, followed by the Bahraini dinar at about 138.11, the Omani rial near 135.06, the Qatari riyal around 14.27 and the Jordanian dinar close to 73.24 pounds. Card rates on foreign purchases differ from the cash rate. The global networks add a small margin to each transaction, which usually appears on the statement two or three days later. Exchange rates are set by supply and demand for foreign currency, the balance of exports and imports, flows from investment, tourism and remittances, and the central bank's decisions in Egypt on interest rates and monetary policy. The dollar rate reaches almost every corner of the economy: imported goods, medicine, fuel, the cost of travel and study abroad, and the local gold price, which rises and falls with it.
