Treat unlicensed platforms advertising unusually attractive rates with caution. The apparent gain rarely covers the risk, and the official route stays safer even when it looks less generous.
The dollar rate reaches almost every corner of the economy: imported goods, medicine, fuel, the cost of travel and study abroad, and the local gold price, which rises and falls with it.
Exchange rates are set by supply and demand for foreign currency, the balance of exports and imports, flows from investment, tourism and remittances, and the central bank's decisions in Egypt on interest rates and monetary policy.
