Gold in Egypt, 29 September 2026: 24K, 22K, 21K and 18K in detail

Prices in Egypt came under pressure today, 29 September 2026, following the global ounce lower.
A gram of 24K was quoted at about 6,960 pounds, with 22K near 6,380 pounds, 21K — the grade most buyers across the region choose — around 6,090 pounds, and 18K close to 5,220 pounds. The 8-gram gold pound, at 21K, works out at roughly 48,720 pounds.
Globally, the ounce traded near $4,127, which is the reference every local price is built from. Converting it takes two steps: divide by 31.1 to reach a gram of pure gold, then apply the local exchange rate and the purity of the karat.
The local gold price in Egypt follows a simple formula: the gram price for a karat equals the global ounce price in dollars, divided by 31.1, multiplied by the local dollar rate, multiplied by the purity of that karat. Any move in the dollar or the ounce shows up locally almost immediately.
Buying in Egypt tends to rise around wedding seasons and holidays, and that local demand can push making charges up even when the global price has not moved at all.
Most advisers suggest spreading savings rather than putting everything into one asset, treating gold as part of a balanced mix chosen to match your goals and your tolerance for risk.
A common mistake is accepting the first advertised price without comparing. Differences between shops can be meaningful on a single piece, particularly in the making charge, which has no fixed tariff.
A softer market often draws buyers who have been waiting, though it is worth remembering that a single day's move says little about the weeks ahead.
Before buying, compare the full price — metal plus making charge — across more than one shop, and remember that bars and coins carry a far smaller premium than jewellery and suit investment better.
