Gold prices this morning, 10 October 2026, in Egypt

Prices in Egypt came under pressure today, 10 October 2026, following the global ounce lower.
A gram of 24K was quoted at about 7,029 pounds, with 22K near 6,443 pounds, 21K — the grade most buyers across the region choose — around 6,150 pounds, and 18K close to 5,272 pounds. The 8-gram gold pound, at 21K, works out at roughly 49,203 pounds.
Globally, the ounce traded near $4,195, which is the reference every local price is built from. Converting it takes two steps: divide by 31.1 to reach a gram of pure gold, then apply the local exchange rate and the purity of the karat.
The local gold price in Egypt follows a simple formula: the gram price for a karat equals the global ounce price in dollars, divided by 31.1, multiplied by the local dollar rate, multiplied by the purity of that karat. Any move in the dollar or the ounce shows up locally almost immediately.
The hallmark stamped on a piece is its official purity certificate. Its presence means the piece passed through assay; its absence leaves the karat resting on the seller's word alone, which is worth avoiding entirely.
Weight affects the making charge directly. The larger the piece, the smaller the relative charge per gram, which is why buyers saving for the long term tend to prefer heavier pieces over a collection of small ones.
It helps to separate the "gold price" from what you actually pay. Jewellery carries a making charge you lose on resale, while bars and coins carry a much smaller premium and sit closer to the raw gram price — which is why they suit saving better than ornaments do.
A softer market often draws buyers who have been waiting, though it is worth remembering that a single day's move says little about the weeks ahead.
When you come to sell, the value of what you hold is usually based on the gram price alone, without the making charge. Choosing the right karat and form for your purpose — saving or wearing — matters more than timing the market.
