Silver continues to draw interest in Egypt as a savings and investment option alongside gold, particularly for buyers who want a precious metal at a reachable price.
Fine silver (999) was quoted at about 83.31 pounds a gram today, with sterling silver (925) near 77.06 pounds. An ounce came in around 2,591 pounds.
In larger units, 100 grams of fine silver works out at roughly 8,331 pounds, and a full kilogram at about 83,309 pounds — the weights favoured by anyone treating silver as a long-term store of value.
One figure investors watch is the gold-to-silver ratio, currently around 85. It says an ounce of gold is worth roughly 85 ounces of silver, and some use it to judge which of the two looks better value.
Silver also carries real industrial demand, in electronics, solar panels and electric vehicles. That demand supports it over the long term alongside its role as a store of value.
Silver trades globally by the ounce, as gold does, and an ounce is 31.1 grams. The local gram price follows from it once the exchange rate and the dealer's margin are applied.
Some investors hold silver to diversify beside gold. It usually moves in the same direction but with sharper swings in both, which makes it both an opportunity and a higher risk at the same time.
