Foreign currency rates against the Egyptian pound were updated again today, 21 September 2026, with households and importers alike watching the dollar for its direct effect on prices.
The US dollar was quoted at about 52.04 pounds, the euro near 59.73 pounds and sterling around 69.63 pounds. Among Gulf currencies, the Saudi riyal stood close to 13.88 pounds and the UAE dirham near 14.17 pounds.
Across the rest of the region, the Kuwaiti dinar remained the highest valued at roughly 168.58 pounds, followed by the Bahraini dinar at about 138.41, the Omani rial near 135.35, the Qatari riyal around 14.30 and the Jordanian dinar close to 73.40 pounds.
Importers and business owners watch the dollar closely because it feeds directly into the cost of goods and raw materials, and from there into what the shopper pays.
Travellers are usually better served buying foreign currency in instalments rather than all at once, which avoids the risk of hitting a single day at the top of its range.
It pays to separate the advertised rate from the real cost of a transfer. Some providers quote an attractive rate and then add commissions that leave the total higher than a competitor quoting a worse headline number.
