Gold eased in Egypt today, 22 September 2026, giving buyers a softer entry point than earlier in the week.
A gram of 24K was quoted at about 7,223 pounds, with 22K near 6,621 pounds, 21K — the grade most buyers across the region choose — around 6,320 pounds, and 18K close to 5,417 pounds. The 8-gram gold pound, at 21K, works out at roughly 50,561 pounds.
Globally, the ounce traded near $4,338, which is the reference every local price is built from. Converting it takes two steps: divide by 31.1 to reach a gram of pure gold, then apply the local exchange rate and the purity of the karat.
Local demand follows clear seasonal patterns — wedding season, the end of the school year, the approach of the holidays. In those windows jewellery demand rises and making charges often rise with it.
Timing matters less than most people expect. Many analysts prefer buying gradually in monthly instalments rather than committing a large sum at once — an approach that smooths out the effect of price swings over the long run.
It helps to separate the "gold price" from what you actually pay. Jewellery carries a making charge you lose on resale, while bars and coins carry a much smaller premium and sit closer to the raw gram price — which is why they suit saving better than ornaments do.
Storage deserves thought. Larger holdings are better kept in a bank vault or an insured safe than left at home, where loss usually means no compensation at all.
A softer market often draws buyers who have been waiting, though it is worth remembering that a single day's move says little about the weeks ahead.
When you come to sell, the value of what you hold is usually based on the gram price alone, without the making charge. Choosing the right karat and form for your purpose — saving or wearing — matters more than timing the market.
