Foreign currency rates against the Egyptian pound were updated again today, 15 September 2026, with households and importers alike watching the dollar for its direct effect on prices.
The US dollar was quoted at about 51.83 pounds, the euro near 59.87 pounds and sterling around 69.95 pounds. Among Gulf currencies, the Saudi riyal stood close to 13.82 pounds and the UAE dirham near 14.11 pounds.
Across the rest of the region, the Kuwaiti dinar remained the highest valued at roughly 168.01 pounds, followed by the Bahraini dinar at about 137.84, the Omani rial near 134.79, the Qatari riyal around 14.24 and the Jordanian dinar close to 73.10 pounds.
Travellers are usually better served buying foreign currency in instalments rather than all at once, which avoids the risk of hitting a single day at the top of its range.
One currency pair never tells the whole story. Comparing a currency against a basket gives a far more accurate reading of its real strength than watching the dollar alone.
Treat unlicensed platforms advertising unusually attractive rates with caution. The apparent gain rarely covers the risk, and the official route stays safer even when it looks less generous.
